Biography

I am the C.E.O. of Hale Makua, non-profit organization on the island of Maui. I have been at Hale Makua for 25 years, 16 of which as it's C.E.O. Hale Makua is a highly respected health care organization which specializes in what I like to term "post acute care". We operate 2 nursing homes, a day health center, a Medicare Certified Home Health agency, a rehabilitation program, and a case management program that supports families who care for frail elders who would otherwise be in a nursing home.

I am a graduate of the University of Hawaii with a degree in Political Science and a Master Degree in Pubic Health Administration and Planning.

I am currently the principle investigator of the Maui Long Term Care Partnership, a program of the Community Partnerships for Older Adults funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

I recently received the "Maui Outstanding Non Profit Director of the Year" award for 2006.

It has been my privilege last year to be invited to travel to Japan to teach and learn with others from China, Japan, Korea and the U.S. on ways in which to care for the age wave that we are dealing with in our respective countries.
